Discussion at Base Camp. Eric talks about
his interpretation of Ted Cox's notes. Bob
and Josh on the left, Eric center, Jesse and Ron
on the right. Eric had just spent the last
week guarding base camp by himself. The
following
evening he decides to "come out" for a hot
shower and warm bed for a day or two.
Within hours of his arrival in Apache Junction, his gall bladder would attack him.

Since no motor vehicles or mechanical
contraptions of any type are allowed in the
Wilderness, EVERYTHING needed at the site must
be hand carried, or packed in by horse. Jesse leads horses to the site, carrying collar
timbers for the shaft.
What most folks
don't realize is that when someone walks past
the camera in a documentary, the camera already
has to be there. If it is a one camera
shoot, this means running
ahead of on-camera persons, then waiting for them
to come by. Filming them as they pass.
Then running ahead again for another shot.
This can be a daunting task at
sea level. The mine site rest at one mile
above sea level. The same elevation as
Denver.
This
was Chewie's first time at the site and you can
hear he wasn't used to the elevation!

Everyone has an opinion. Where does the
left drift start? Did Cox and his people
only remove bullion from the main drift?
Or did they also find and excavate the left
drift? Over lunch, or between bucketfuls
of dirt, the theories fly.
Here, Eric tries to decipher some of Cox's
photos, Ron while Ron adds his own comments.

Ron
can be "verbose" at times. Although this
clip has little to do with excavating an old
mine shaft, it gives a glimpse into the
camaraderie the HEAT team experiences.
Here, Chewie has just reminded everyone to try
to be aware of their language when the camera is
rolling. Less bleeps and much easier on
the editing process. Of course, Ron
instantly forgets!
